Speeding in the wrong direction? Don’t let that be you

It was Mahatma Gandhi who said and I quote “Speed is irrelevant if you are going in the wrong direction”.

This is painfully true because no matter how fast you progress, you will not reach your destination if you are headed in the wrong direction.

That means that direction is of utmost importance in your quest for personal growth and success. There is nothing as painful as painstakingly climbing the ladder only to realize you were leaning on the wrong wall.

Painful!

In today’s email, I will explain how you can make sure your momentum is directed correctly and your efforts are focused on the right goals.

Last week, we talked about value-based growth, this week we will talk about direction-inspired growth.

To create a growth roadmap that truly reflects our direction in life, here are a few exercises I use for my clients:

  • It’s the year 20XX Envision yourself marking your 80th birthday and reflect on the following questions:
    • ✍️Who and who do you want to be surrounded with
    • ✍️How do you want to celebrate that day(think place, details etc)
    • ✍️What accomplishments would you be celebrating by that age
  • It’s 3 years from today
    • ✍️Who do you aspire to be in the next three years
    • ✍️What accomplishments do you hope to attain in various aspects of my life
  • It’s 12 months from today
    • ✍️What would you like to be celebrating in the next 12 months
    • ✍️Write a letter to yourself dated in the next 12 months, reflecting on the achievements and experiences of the past 12 months and detailing what you have accomplished
  • In 3 months (and review monthly)
    • ✍️What are the most important next goals for you to achieve
    • ✍️What will you consider your greatest wins for this season
    • ✍️How will you like to live your life in the next 3 months(lifestyle)

While these questions can delve into broader and deeper areas, my aim is to give immediate value that you can use within the character limits of LinkedIn.

These questions enable you to begin the journey of evolving into the person you envision in your heart and offer flexibility as your goals evolve, so that your ultimate vision remains a guiding North Star, directing your path toward personalized success.

So, as times change and you grow, it’s important to periodically review this exercise.

This ensures alignment with your goals and allows for the elimination of any objectives that no longer hold significance.

And remember, it is okay to pivot when necessary.

Now it’s your turn

Take the time to review your goals using the exercises above and determine if you are genuinely progressing in the direction that truly aligns with your aspirations.

Remember, inspiration from others should be a guide and not a standard.

So go through these questions and get clear on what your own wins are, so that you can get to the top of the ladder and be glad you leaned on the right wall all along.

Praying for you and rooting for you.

You definitely can be all you were born to be
